Runner Privacy Policy
Effective date: May 24, 2026
Runner values your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how Runner handles the information you create or grant access to while using the app.
1. Information We Collect or Use
Runner is designed to record outdoor activities such as running, hiking, and mountaineering. To provide these features, the app may use the following information after you grant permission.
Location Information
Runner uses GPS location data while recording an activity to calculate distance, route, pace, elevation gain, grade, and related metrics.
If you allow background location access, Runner can continue recording an activity when the app is in the background or your device is locked. You can turn off location permission at any time in your system settings.
Health and Fitness Data
If you authorize Runner to access Apple Health, Runner writes your completed activities to Apple Health, including activity type, start time, end time, duration, distance, route, and, when it can be calculated, active energy.
Runner uses this only to sync the activity data generated by the app to Apple Health. It does not use health data for advertising, marketing, or sale.
Photos and Camera
Runner's activity sharing feature may request access to your photo library or camera to select or capture an image as the background of a share graphic, or to save a generated share image to your photo library.
Runner does not upload your photos and does not access, share, or save photos without an action you initiate.
Body Weight
If you enter your body weight, Runner uses it to estimate calories burned. Weight is stored only locally on your device for calorie calculation and is not uploaded to any server.
2. How Information Is Stored
Your activity records, goal settings, body weight, and share-editing data are stored primarily on your device.
Other than Apple Health sync, Runner does not upload your activity records, GPS routes, health data, or photos to our servers.
3. About Apple Health Data
When Runner uses Apple HealthKit, it follows Apple's rules:
- Runner does not use Apple Health data for advertising or marketing.
- Runner does not sell, rent, or trade your health data.
- Runner does not access or write Apple Health data without your authorization.
- You can manage Runner's health permissions at any time in the iOS Health app or in Settings.
4. Managing Permissions
You can manage Runner's permissions at any time in iOS Settings, including location, health, photo library, camera, and Live Activity permissions.
Disabling certain permissions may prevent the related features from working. For example, if location permission is turned off, Runner cannot record GPS distance or route.
5. Information Sharing
Runner does not sell your personal information. In the following cases, data may be processed by system services:
- When you authorize Apple Health sync, activity data is written to Apple Health.
- When you actively use the system share feature, the shared content is handled by the iOS share sheet or the third-party app you choose.
- When you actively save an image to your photo library, the image is saved to the system photo library.
6. Children's Privacy
Runner is intended for general audiences. If a minor uses the app, they should do so with the consent and guidance of a guardian, especially regarding location and health data permissions.
7. Data Security
Runner makes reasonable efforts to protect your data. Because the primary data is stored locally on your device, please keep your device, system account, and passcode secure.
8. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as features change or as required by law. Updated policies will be marked with a new effective date.
